| NEW SCRIPT PUT ON A SHOW!! |
Here's a quaint little toy I dreamt up for something different and have now included on the disk. First I recorded a few sound effects and then dug up a few more I've had laying around. Then I wrote a new html script to play the effects when the mouse hovers over them. Now, whilst playing a karaoke song you can hover over the effect you want.IE USERS ONLY: This script works great in Internet Explorer but Firefox seems to delay the effect a little which spoils the timing.
Early versions of this disk had all of my songs in 1 folder. For the last 2 years I have been sorting songs into separate folders to speed up disk access times. This is a mammoth task!
In order to sort the karaoke files I need to play each one first to test that it passes my quality control. I can only devote a few hours a week to this task so I still include the unsorted folder on the disk. I treat it as the surprise folder and still always enjoy finding something new!

| The Product Interview - 2006 |
UMK asks Pete the serious questions!
UMK: Pete, what started your collection? Pete: Midi files are a compilation of two of my great loves, music and computers. In the early days of computers midi music was the standard. I have a few muso mates who, like most musos still do today, they use midi to play the backbeats whilst they sing and play along with the tune. Before long I had a large collection of midi files without words and a good old Atari computer to play them on. It would have been around 1984 in the good old DOS days that I bought my first midi karaoke player which was Turtle Beach Karaoke and I guess that really started my hunt for more midi files, this time with karaoke. Within a couple of years I had good collection of around 2,000 songs and was seriously hooked!
UMK: Why Karaoke? Pete: Why not karaoke? It's a lot of fun. I enjoy singing and so do the people around me. All we need is a nice sounding beat to sing to and we're off haha!! That's why I made sure my collection is full of the best sounding tunes, because I use it myself. It's been great for parties and get togethers. We've been known to plan the whole party music around the karaoke singers but often even at family get togethers the singers amongst us will head to the karaoke computer whilst the rest become an audience! I get a lot of positive feedback from the disk which always pushes me to make it better.
UMK: Why the karaoke disk? Pete: I put the disk together to take to parties. Everyone has a computer and it's a good way to get a quiet party kicking! When I did take it elsewhere people kept asking for a copy of my disk because they enjoyed it so much so I went to work making it user friendly and ready to travel. Their friends then wanted copies too so I decided to make it available to everyone online.
UMK: Will there be disk updates? Pete: Well probably not so many now. I must have too many songs in my collection already as it is getting harder to find any new songs. I do expect I'll get to add around a few new songs each year but not as many as before. Future disk updates I have planned will be updating the whole layout of the disk.
UMK: Do you often talk to yourself? Pete: Absolutely, it's a talent I have and when it comes to talking about my karaoke disk, nobody knows it better than I do! :)
